Although it is not dated, Peeling Apples almost certainly dates from the early period in Wolseley's career, when he was living in Cornwall, working at Sandy-Cove Studio in Newlyn. With its delightful subject of the everyday chores of a young girl sitting in the glimmering light of her cottage window, it  demonstrates the influence of his friend in Newlyn Laura Knight and perhaps also Stanhope Forbes, the 'Father of the Newlyn School'. It is a clever, subtle study of subdued light through the brilliantly-lit window, reflecting from the white-washed walls of the cottage interior.
